Fall is fast approaching, and with any luck I am really hoping this is the last heat wave of
the season!! This is my favorite time of year, where Charlottesville begins to glow with
festivals, concerts, and family outings, as the crisp scent of autumn settles into the air.
The Charlottesville Botanical Garden hosts an Arts Festival throughout the month,
featuring Piedmont nature‑inspired art installations, gentle walking paths, and hands‑on
activities for children. It is a peaceful way to ease into fall.
Apple season arrives at the legendary Carter’s Mountain orchard. with warm apple
cinnamon donuts, apple picking, and sweeping mountain views. Their Thursday evening
Sunset Series offers live music, lawn games, wine, and food truck favorites. It is a
perfect outing for families and anyone who loves a good golden hour.
On September 7th, Keswick Vineyards hosts a sweet family‑friendly day complete with a
mini petting zoo. Children can run across the grassy lawn while parents enjoy a relaxing
glass of wine.
The Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival returns from September 8 th through the 19 th
with world‑class performances across town! Their website has the full schedule and all

If you are a Grateful Dead fan, Dark Star Orchestra will take the stage at the Ting
Pavilion downtown. It is always a lively evening with food trucks, wine, and beer stands.
On September 13 th , IX Park hosts Cville VegFest, an exciting celebration of plant‑based
foods, live music, entertainment, children’s activities, yoga, and more.
If you are looking for fresh food and good wine, Eastwood Winery keeps the
celebrations going all month! Every Friday night features fresh oysters paired with live
music, creating a perfect start to the weekend. Their Oktoberfest festivities continue
through September and October with German food and beer offered each weekend. On
September 13 th , local artisans will be on site showcasing unique hand‑crafted goods.
Lastly, Charlottesville’s favorite outdoor activities shine in the fall. The Saunders Trail
offers a shaded four‑mile walk or run that is perfect for families and their furry
companions. The Rivanna River Company provides gentle kayaking and tubing rentals
for exploring the river and its wildlife. And of course, the Historic Downtown Mall is ideal
for strolling through local galleries and enjoying a homemade ice cream cone at Chaps.
