March at The Clifton

Spring is upon us Charlottesville, and I could not be happier to thaw out after a chilly winter. The first Bluebells and Lenten roses are beginning to pop in our garden, and the promise of warmer days, especially those golden afternoons in the upper 60’s, always feel like a gift. It fills my heart every March!

My love of reading blossomed later in life, and now I look forward to March for more than just the flowers. The Virginia Festival of the Book returns March 20–23, bringing together an inspiring mix of authors, speakers, and literary events. With most sessions free and open to the public, it’s a wonderful opportunity to delve into storytelling. Explore the lineup at www.vabook.org.

For film lovers, the Indie Short Film Festival will take place at the Violet Crown Theatre and other venues downtown on March 20th-22nd.  It provides independent film makers from all over the world with a platform to share their stories and their process of making short films in intimate settings.  Over 100 short films will be showcased from animation to documentaries and live action. Visit  https://www.indieshortfilmfestival.net/ for the full schedule.

After months of snow and ice, it’s time to get outside again! The 50th annual Charlottesville Ten Miler is a beloved local tradition by running community. Whether you run or walk, it is a wonderful way to start the day! I always enjoy cheering on the participants and then treating myself to a Bodo’s bagel and a hot coffee. Yumm!

If you prefer to stay close to Clifton, our one-mile hiking trail offers a peaceful escape. The path winds through the woods behind Lake Arabella and leads down to the Rivanna River, where you can enjoy a quiet walk along the water. It eventually reaches the historic boat landing where Bateau boats once unloaded cargo for Clifton. From there, follow the trail back up the hill to our secret garden nestled among the cottages.

Hungry after all of that? We are also hosting a very special wine dinner here at Clifton on March 18 from 6:00–10:30 p.m. Enjoy a fivecourse menu crafted by our wonderful new Chef Aaron, paired with exceptional wines from Barboursville Vineyards. With warmer weather on the horizon, there will be even more Spring adventures in and around Clifton!  For any questions, feel free to connect with me via at concierge@the-clifton.com.

Cheers,
