June at The Clifton: The Start of Summer in Charlottesville

I found myself back in the Belmont neighborhood over the very rainy Memorial Day weekend because I just had to try the pizza at Ciaccia.  There were three good choices, but I ordered the smoked provolone with roasted mushrooms.  The combination of flavors with the crunchy, buttery focaccia crust was out of this world!  I enjoyed every single bite.  Hurry!!

It’s polo season at King Family Vineyards and there is nothing more fun than dressing up and packing the whole family, including your pup, and tailgating while watching professional polo and sipping Crozet Rose!  Bring your favorite tailgate fare or order from one of the Food Trucks.  Cheese and charcuterie with warm baguette are available inside the tasting room.  The view of the family home against the Blue Ridge Mountains is stunning.  Every Sunday with the first match starting at Noon.

It’s been a chilly and rainy spring (no complaints here!), however the heat and humidity is looming.  Hiking Sugar Hollow’s Blue Hole trail is a great way to cool off.  Wear shoes that can get wet because you’ll walk over the river on rocks to get to the hike and through some creeks as you go along.  At the top is a beloved swimming hole that is easy to get to!  A cascading waterfall, too.  I like to pack a picnic and lunch there before heading back down.  It’s an easy 3-mile hike with plenty of shade.

We have a new activity here at Clifton.  Every day at 4pm, our guests can participate in several different activities such as Clifton Cocktail Making, Virginia Wine Tasting, A Guided Nature and History Hike and Croquet and Cocktails.  All complimentary!

Happy Summer,

Ann
